At this point I had a problem... I couldn't work out how to fit in any more characters. With the space taken up by the joysticks and buttons whatever I tried I just couldn't find anything that would work.

A lot of thinking later I figured out that I would fill the rest of the space using various scenes from the Metal Slug games. So off I went hunting down screenshots, loading them in to Gimp and trying to blend them together to find something that would work with the shape of the board I had left. The picture below is the start of what I had managed to plan out, the middle part was still very undecided.
